  1. A bench or a chair works fine. Please see our meditation video.

  2. In my experience of 20 years I have not come close to mastering it. It’s important to practice with a teacher if you can. There are other types of practice but without a teacher counting / following the breath is the most reliable.

  3. Of course. Buddhism does not interfere with people’s religion. Many do not consider it a religion. You do not need to cross your feet. You can just do whatever you can and take from it whatever works for you.

  4. I agree. That may be why our Zen lineage has only passed down one option.

  5. Ideally it’s best to go back to counting the breath. Also, if something doesn’t feel comfortable you probably shouldn’t do it.

  6. Not many people can.

  7. Absolutely

  8. It’s better not to. Closing your eyes helps activate your intellect and it’s easier to fall into a daydream.

  9. That’s part of the trick. If you focus on emptying the mind, you’ll look for an empty mind, and the mind will never be empty. By just counting the breath it will happen naturally without realizing or looking for it.

  10. This can only be answered by doing it. Words are very superficial and don’t even scratch the surface.

  11. You actually don’t want to look for an outcome, since we just want to be what we are there actually is no reaching.

  12. once this is mastered over a period of a few years, should this type of meditation be continued forever or is there a more advanced type?

  13. Can christain also meditate and is always necessary to cross your feets?

  14. I don’t think that such a small thing as right hand over left is an argument to entertain. The true teaching is to make meditation work.
