Yoga is a practice that combines both physical movements with meditative practices. The use of music for yoga helps to improve mental focus during meditation and reflection, as well as provide a tempo that can be followed to undertake free and flowing physical movement through the various yoga positions.
About yoga and music
While practicing yoga, the body and mind are focussed on meditation and deep breathing for relaxation. Different yoga practices have different focuses. A meditative yoga session may use meditative music to help improve the ability to meditate while doing yoga. Listening to music can help to achieve a number of different meditative states, depending upon what the individual is focussing upon. The use of music also helps to give a tempo and pace at which to progress through the different positions held during the yoga session.
The benefit of music during yoga
Music can help to focus the mind, so that the meditative state is achieved more readily. Outside distractions that can prevent you from entering a deeper meditative state are removed when using music. This yoga music then helps facilitate the connection between the mind and body so that the individual is able to achieve a deeper level of reflection whilst doing the yoga and meditation.
