Guided Imagery Meditation – Guided Meditation

Guided imagery is a useful technique to practice if you feel worried and just need a few minutes alone to calm your mind and find a moment of peace. In this meditation exercise you will utilize your imagination to create beautiful pictures in your mind. You will also make use of your other senses to completely experience the environment in every way that you can. So if you are feeling like you could use a couple of minutes to calm your mind and body, you may want to try this step-by-step meditation.

Take some time out of your day to do this easy meditation exercise. Do this exercise for 10 minutes or more if you need more time. Find a silent location in your house to do your meditation and be sure that nothing or no one will interrupt your practice for these 10 minutes. Also make sure that there are electronic devices around that could steal your focus.

So choose a comfortable meditation posture either sitting up or lying down and take a minute to calm your mind and body. When you feel calm and ready to start you meditation, close your eyes and take 3 slow deep cleansing breaths to breathe out negativity and anger from your mind and body.

Meditation Technique:

Picture yourself lying or sitting in the middle of a green garden. This peaceful garden is filled with tropical plants and flowers, which are surrounding you. Picture yourself looking around at the different plants and detecting every type, shape and colour. Be curious and exited. Let the prettiness of this visualization awe and overwhelm you. You feel so astonished of the wonders of the earth. Feel free and happy, and try to really let yourself to feel jolly. Just enjoy the environment.

Now imagine that you are hearing the sounds of this lovely garden. What do you hear? pay attention to any sound such as the wind in the trees and plants, the sound of exotic birds in the trees, other animal sounds, etc. Feel free to use your imagination and do not think about selecting the most accurate sounds for this garden but allow youself to go with what feels good and calming. So if you start to hear running water, frogs or rain, let it to be part of your garden, as long as it makes you relax and feel safe.

Now you must utilize the rest of your senses. Do your best to feel the surface of the plants. Feel the smoothness of the leaves and the dryness of the soil. Visualize yourself toughing different things in the garden and noticing the different sensations. Try to smell the smell of the garden. Notice the freshness in the garden and let it fill you with delight and serenity.

When you are ready to leave this lovely mind creation and continue with your day, start by moving your arms and feet and then gently open your eyes. Let the feeling of relaxation stay with you for the rest of the day.
