Mindfulness Meditation

Article by Mark Person

Meditation provides calmness, peace, balance, and well-being. These are just a few of the benefits of meditation. Nonetheless, the most common benefit of meditation is its power to overcome stress and its overwhelming effects. With that being said, it implies therefore that holistic enhancement, as well as maintenance of such healthy state, in an individual’s life is made possible through meditation. And contrary to the knowledge of many, meditation will actually take only a few minutes – few minutes that have been proven to eradicate stress and other negative emotions through the years of practice.

Stress, on the other hand, is basically the reason of the existence of the practice of meditation. However, it is important to note that meditation has and is still being used as one of the religious practices all over the world, regardless of the religion or denomination. Furthermore, stress brings about anything that is negative, thus medical conditions are highly associated with stress, making it as a predisposing factor that must be rid of. Also, stress can actually disable a person, affecting his/her activities of daily living, as it affects not only the emotional aspect of an individual’s life but also that of his/her emotional and psychological side. As a result, inability to accomplish daily tasks is expected.

Meditation and stress are almost always linked with each other. Without stress, meditation may not be known by mankind, and vice versa. Meditation battles with stress in many ways – meditation technique is how we name these ways. Meditation techniques may include the basic ones, as well as the focused type (where one is asked to focus on something closely), activity-oriented type (repetitive activities are applied such as involving in artwork making and yoga), mindfulness meditation, and the spiritual meditation.

Let us focus or attention on mindfulness meditation. It is a type of meditation technique wherein acquisition of insights from what is in reality is intended. It is for this reason that mindfulness meditation is also called an insight meditation. During the actual practice, an individual is asked to engage in some activities, making them stay in the present thereby avoiding some thoughts flying to the future or the past. This may seem simple but in reality it is not, as many of us are hooked by our memories of the past, as well as the expectations and plans for the future.
