Reduce Stress through Meditation

Article by Ivy Ling

Anyone can practice meditation. It’s simple and inexpensive, and it doesn’t require any special equipment. And you can practice meditation wherever you are — whether you’re out for a walk, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor’s office or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting.

Understanding meditationMeditation has been practiced for thousands of years. Meditation originally was meant to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. These days, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction.

Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. Meditation produces a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. This process results in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

Benefits of meditationMeditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that benefits both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don’t end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and can even improve certain medical conditions.

AllergiesAnxiety disordersAsthmaBinge eatingCancerDepressionFatigueHeart diseaseHigh blood pressurePainSleep problemsSubstance abuseBe sure to talk to your health care provider about the pros and cons of using meditation if you have any of these conditions or other health problems. Stress Relief

Article by Pagago Labadin

Stress relief is vital to all humans. Without it you will get people blowing up all over the place all over the time because their stress levels have gotten too high. You don’t want that, do you? So find a way to relieve your stress.

It does not matter how much you love each other, you will get on each other’s nerves from time to time. It is not that the love is dwindling or anything, it’s just that you are different people and you need to create some space so that you can be yourself a little. Don’t do it together; take some time apart – a day or two – to be free and relieve that stress.

People often don’t know how much emotion they are bottling up until it all comes to a head. It happens suddenly and they blow up in your face because of the pent up stress. They must let that stress out otherwise it will undo them.

All of those successful men you see on the telly are that way because they mastered stress relief. They must get stressed too, but they don’t cave under it because they know how to handle it. So do you know how to handle yours? If you don’t, begin to look for that now. Something as little as a wrong look could finally be the straw that broke your dam of emotions. I say that as long as you are still sane, you need to begin to look for your own way to get stress relief. It does not matter that you have held on for so long; don’t let is last another night.

You know what sets humans apart from animals? It’s stress relief. Animals just let their emotions run amok but we, we control and channel it. People who cannot do that end up being animals themselves, and people who can get to retain their sanity.

Some of the worst accidents in life happen when you are stressed. You begin to make errors of judgment and questionable calls that could put lives in danger. You must learn to provide your mind with the needed relief from that stress, otherwise you’d break. All the hard work that you have to do could get you all worked up and you don’t like it. In spite of that you want to go on because you feel that you must. That might however be a problem because working in such a state could cause you to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. You must give yourself a chance to unwind.

We don’t all unwind the same way. Some guys fish, some hunt, and some go on a night out with the boys. Be careful you don’t hurt the people you care for as you go about it, but it is more important that you let that stress ooze of out your system.

Think of a balloon all blown up and then pricked by a pin. It would be more destructive than if its mouth was opened and the air let out slowly. That’s how to handle stress right there; don’t let it build up, just let it out in a controlled manner. You need to find out what triggers you off, and you need to find out how to defuse it. If you keep putting it off the way you are, you’d only end up imploding. Not a good sign, I’d say.

Screaming never solved anybody’s problem. What it does is that it increases your stress levels and those of the people around you. Instead, you could go for a long walk and come back refreshed to view the situation from another angle. That has got to work.

People are different, and what applies to one may not apply to the other. There is no reason why you should expect that your stress gets relieved by the same techniques that theirs does. What you need to do is discover what your poison is, and find its antidote. The reason people get suddenly angry at times and we cannot seem to tell why is that they are stressed up. The way to stop them is to find some way to make them less angry by defusing the situation, and this comes only by getting them to cool off. I mean relieve their stress so way or another.

For some, it’s running that helps to reduce the pressure. They just put on a pair of sneakers, get on the streets and run. I tried it too and I like it, but it is hardly the move for me. I much rather prefer talking. Your means of stress relief could be anything as well.

Getting angry is a natural thing, but getting so angry that we hurt someone is not. That happens when you allow pent up emotions to fester in you. Not a brilliant idea, that; you must find ways to stop the feelings from boiling up, and you must do it with stress relief.

Using Meditation for Stress Reduction

Article by Dion Daly

You could say that meditation is a kind of alternative medicine that stimulates bodily relaxation and emotional stillness. Seeing that meditation produces relaxation both in body and mind this then makes it an ideal practice for stress reduction.

A lot of people think that practising meditation as a way to relieve stress is a load of rubbish because they think that meditation is not a practical answer to eradicating stress. But studies have shown that meditation is an effective method for reducing stress.

Basically meditation is about intentionally calming your mind and body for a certain amount of time. What this means is that it is necessary to draw your attention inwardly so that your mind is on the whole so busy focused on the breathing and body form that there’s no time to ponder about the stressful happenings in your life.

One of the good things about meditation is that it is in fact fairly easy to do. You do not need to be a mystic or a spiritual person to practise meditation because meditation is a practise that all kinds of people can do.

Another good thing about meditation is that it does not involve hours of practice at a time for it to be effective in decreasing stress. You can Practice meditation in ten, or twenty- minute time slots once or twice a day.

To make sure you have a successful meditation session you need to ensure that you’re in a tranquil, quiet setting. What this means is that when you are going to practice your meditation, you should make sure that you’re wearing something that you feel comfortable and relaxed in, try not to wear any clothing that is restrictive. Your environment (whether you’re indoors or outdoors) should also be to your liking.

Remember stress reducing meditation is about concentration. Once you’re completely relaxed (you can sit cross- legged or sit on a chair or even lie down). Then shut your eyes and concentrate your awareness on your breathing throughout the whole meditation period. Count your breaths. If you want you can say the numbers out loud doing this will deter your mind from straying to other thoughts.

Another way to stop your mind straying during your meditation period is to make use of imagery. Imagery is very well-liked in meditation because all you need to do with imagery is concentrate on something you think is pleasing to look at.

Sometimes it can take a bit of time to acquire the ability not to let your mind stray to other thoughts while you’re meditating. But the good thing is once you’ve become skilled at meditation, you’ll find you’ll be able to do it almost anywhere to calm yourself down when you’re feeling overcome by stress. Good Luck!

A Simple Guide To Meditation To Help You Deal With Stress

Article by Melanie VanNuys

Meditation is one of the techniques used in stress management. A person who is riddled with problems often finds it hard to focus; which often leads to more problems cropping up due to their mistakes. Meditation techniques helps a person achieve a calm state of mind without having to resort to drugs or relaxation tools and implements. Every step to meditation is done in the mind.

Remember that meditation is not a one shot deal. It is almost impossible to attain a calm state of mind in just a matter of minutes, especially if it’s your first time at it. It is essential that you keep on practicing meditation until you have conditioned your mind to instantaneously achieve the state just by thinking it.

Here are some steps for a beginner to start with meditation as their Stress Management strategy.

Step 1: Find A Quiet Corner To Start Your Meditation

Distraction is a hindrance to those who are still starting out with meditation. When you close your eyes, your sense of hearing will be twice as good so it is quite possible to hear almost anything in your surroundings that will make it hard for you to concentrate.

For beginners, it is important to start out in a quiet place in your home where noise is non-existent. Close your windows and lock your door. If possible, you can tell everyone in your home to minimize their noise so that you won’t get distracted.

Step 2: Ready Your Position

It is advisable for beginners to avoid lying down when practicing meditation. The aim here is not to sleep, and it is a guarantee that you will immediately fall off to sleep if your mind reaches a relaxed state. To stop this from happening, you can start your meditation in a lotus position or you can find a chair you can sit on. Make sure that your back is straight and your hands are relaxed on the armrest or on your lap.

Step 3: Begin Your Meditation With Proper Breathing

A good way to start meditation is to do the proper breathing exercise. You inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This way, you can come up with a rhythm that you can easily focus on. Also, the amount of oxygen in your body will be enough to keep you relaxed. Keep practicing your breathing until you can do it easily without having to think about it.

Step 4: Focus On Your Mind

While you are busy with your breathing, you will achieve a state wherein your mind will start throwing images at you. These are mostly in random — events of the day, future plans, problems and worries, fears and so on. It will be hard to ignore these thoughts and you are not supposed to ignore them. The gist here is to focus on these thoughts without really paying any attention to it.

This might sound hard but a here is a simple example to understand the concept. You know that you have furniture at home — you can see them clearly with your eyes but you are not really concentrating on it. Focusing on the furniture will usually make you think of its color, its material, how it looks in that part of your home, and more. You need to be able to look at these random thoughts in a detached state — seeing them clearly in your head but not focusing your attention on it.

There will come a time that these random thoughts will stop and you will notice that you are already in a blank space in your mind. This is the state you want to achieve during meditation. This is the place where you can think about your problems and focus on it till you can find a solution for it. With this, you have successfully mastered the basics of meditation for your stress management program.
