Using Full Chakra Meditation Techniques : grounding meditation

This is a full-on visualization, and with chakra, the benefits of meditation should leave you feeling highly energized. Sitting comfortably, close your eyes and start to focus in on your breathing.

When you are feeling calm and centered, begin to visualize a lustrous ruby chakra spinning at the base of your torso. You may find that what you see in your mind’s eye is not a perfect red – don’t worry.

Imagine this chakra for as long as you like, then move on to the sacral chakra. Do the same with each one, moving up the body and finishing with the crown chakra. Try to visualize each spinning freely. You may find that the chakras you imagine are rough or wobbly. Try getting them to run smoothly. Let your mind’s eye repair them.

After you have finished visualizing the crown chakra, try imagining all of your chakras spinning at once.

Imagine a clean current of violet light snaking down through your chakras from above the crown and straight into the ground.

Let any negative energy out through the root chakra. Feel positive energy coming in through your crown chakra.

When you are ready, open your eyes. You should feel fully relaxed and highly energized at the same time.

Now it’s time for grounding – this will help bring you back to earth and able to use that extra energy you just built up in your normal life. Choose the method that most suits you.

Drinking a glass of water.
Having something to eat,
Having a shower.
Stamping your feet.
Having a catnap.

It has been said that if prayer is talking with our preferred higher power, then meditation is listening to what that higher power has to tell us, in some way getting the answers to our prayers. To hear these answers, we need to get ourselves into a state of awareness where we’re connected with our inner thoughts and feelings. This article will describe some simple ways to set up your own meditation practice.

Find Your Spot

First you’ll need to find a peaceful spot. This may be a special place in your home where you can find some time for yourself. Or it could be some quiet place outdoors that brings you peace and allows you to focus your thoughts. Find a comfortable seat or cushion where you can breathe easily and freely. Or some people prefer meditating when lying down. Burn a scented candle if it helps you relax or play some soothing music. There is no one right way to set up your meditation spot – just find the way that works for you.

When To Meditate

There is no ideal time for your meditation. First thing in the morning may help you focus your thoughts for the day. Or maybe meditation at bedtime will be relaxing and calming for you and might even improve your sleep. The most important thing about time and meditation is to choose a regular time slot. When getting started, it’s best to choose the same time everyday even if it’s just for a few minutes. This consistency of time will help you develop your new meditation habit.

Focus Meditations

One way of meditating is to focus on an object or a sounds or even the breath. The object can be a burning candle, some memento with personal meaning or even a favorite plant. The sounds can be a word like “peace”, “love” or “calm” or maybe the ancient word “Om”.

Direct all your attention to your focus object and breathe deeply and evenly. Maintain focus on the object and dismiss any distracting thoughts that enter your mind.

Here are some steps for meditating with a lighted candle.

1. Sit in a comfortable position gazing at the lighted candle.

2. After a few minutes, close your eyes but still focus your attention on the image of the flickering flame. If you lose the image, open your eyes and refocus on the flame. Then close your eyes again and continue.

3. Let any thoughts other than the flickering flame just pass through your mind. Do not focus your attention on anything other than the flame.

4. After several minutes, snuff out the candle. Lie down and rest peacefully for a few minutes before getting up.

Mindfulness Meditation

If you’re one of those people who finds it hard to stop the mental chatter when meditating, mindfulness meditation might work for you. In Zen Buddhism, mindfulness is a complete awareness of our thoughts, actions and emotions. It is a process of being fully absorbed in what is happening in the present. In mindfulness meditation, you acknowledge all thoughts and feelings as they come into your mind. The key here is to acknowledge the thought and let it pass through your mind. Don’t worry about it, get anxious about it or try to suppress it. Just return your mental focus to the present time.

Here are some steps for a simple but effective mindfulness meditation.

1. Sit comfortably in your meditation spot.

2. Anchor yourself in the present. For this meditation, don’t think about yesterday’s embarrassments or problems or what you need to do tomorrow.

3. Focus on your breathing. Feel the air as it comes in and is exhaled.

4. Watch each thought as it enters and leaves your mind. Just note that the thought came into your mind but don’t dwell on it.

5. If your mind wanders, don’t judge. Just return your focus to your breathing in the present time. The key here is not to be critical of yourself because your mind wanders.

6. At the end of the meditation, sit quietly for a few minutes and enjoy the feeling of calmness.

These are just a few of many, many ways to meditate. As your practice develops and you learn what works best for you, you can lengthen and modify these practices to suit your needs.

Looking for the middle ground

If you are like most people, finding a balance among all the demands of life can be very challenging. The good news is that it is possible, once you understanding the process of finding balances. Work-life balance is about finding the critical balance point between work and personal commitments. This process looks different for each person, and it looks different at the various stages of life. The effects of work-life imbalance are well-documented : frustration, anxiety, depression, stress, illness brought on by lack of self-care and more. When out of balance, one is also more likely to use substances to compensate- more food, more sugar, more alcohol or more prescription drugs. How do you turn this around?

Be aware

As with all types of change, the first step is to know where you are. Are you aware of being out of whack but aren’t sure why? Perhaps you know in which area you are out of kilter but you don’t know what to do about it.

Find support

Second, you need to know who is there to support you in making changes. Do you need to enrol your boss and propose flexi-time or telecommuting? Do you need to ask your family to help out with responsibilities? Do you need a life coach to keep you motivated and focused?

Set limits.

Next, take a look at your personal boundaries. Are you a people pleaser who always says “yes” to every request? Do you offer to help others at the expense of your own time and stress? You may need to learn how to say “no” and disentangle yourself from obligations you agreed to for the wrong reasons. It is both your right and your responsibility to choose how you spend your time and energy.

Review

The next step is to review all your current obligations as well as those things you would like to include in your life. The list may include self-care, hobbies, home and car maintenance, family obligations, time for yourself and others, social obligations ( as well as socialising for fun ), travel, classes , organisations, community and volunteer efforts, education, health, work and, of course, sleep. Now determine the actual time spent and the desired time spent on each of those activities. You may find quite a disparity between the two. Your goal is to begin working towards the desired time allotment instead of how you spend it now. Prioritise your activities and find ways to delegate, automate or deal with what is not essential. You may decide to lower your standards for house-cleaning, negotiate for flexi-time at work or find a new job altogether.

Create breathing space.

You need to find ways to build decompression space into your day. This will provide you with opportunities to regenerate, clear your mind and keep stress at manageable levels. Daily meditation has been found to have beneficial results in balancing both hemispheres of the brain. You can also de-stress by simply stepping away from your desk and changing your surroundings while taking deep breaths to calm yourself.

The Stabilizing Power Of Meditation

As we go through life things happen to us to get us off course. Things that make us wonder about the true benevolence, kindness and love of life and the universe. The beauty of meditation is that when you meditate you truly get grounded with life and you are able to see how everything is really well and going the way its supposed to. You are doing your part, others are doing their part and together the world is a beautiful place for everyone to live in. As corny as it may sound, I truly believe you will find that meditation brings you to the point of recognizing the beauty of the world around you simply by forcing you to stop and recognize it.

But of course in this beautiful world we live in there is pain and there is suffering. When we are faced with this pain and suffering we are faced with two choices. One choice is to get stuck in that pain and we stay there for days, weeks, months, years, even an entire lifetime. The other choice is that we can work through that pain, come to terms with what it means for our life, how its actually there to help us grow and then grow from it. Because of these challenges in life it is important to stay grounded. It is important to stay close to the center of what life is all about, the beauty of life, the wonder of life. Meditation is really the most powerful tool, the most powerful force that you can draw upon to get through your day, through your year, through your life. When those challenges come, if youre meditating every day, every night, it doesnt take long to get re-grounded and re-centered back to why you are here, what your purpose is and what youre supposed to learn from the challenges that are facing you right now.

Challenges will come; its a part of living. They help us grow, they help us become stronger and as we get stronger more challenges come. What meditation does is keep you so that when challenges come you are able to face them with a full cup. Youre able to face it grounded and with everything you have inside of you because you know and you are aware of who and what you are through meditation. There have been many challenges throughout my life and I feel that I have been blessed through each and every one of them because no matter what comes from each and every one of them I know that from my own personal experience, that no matter what comes my way Im taking care of myself. Im grounded in the purpose and meaning of life by being still, by being silent, by being present with what is.

If you learn to practice meditation every day you will find that when you are grounded you will be prepared for anything. When challenges come, because you are grounded and meditation has taught you that all is well, you will be able to face lifes challenges with understanding. Its a feeling, a sense of all is well even if all right now doesnt feel well or seem well to the immediate mind; yet deep inside, meditation helps us to be grounded and face the challenges in life with equanimity, with peace, with truly believing that in the end all will be well. Meditation teaches you to live in the here and now. No matter whats happening right here, right now theres always something beautiful to be with. Meditation also teaches us that when we focus on the now we lose the fear of what could be, what has been, because there is nothing that we cannot handle one breath at a time right now. It teaches us to say What do I need to do right here and now to get over this hurdle at this moment? and then approach the challenge grounded and capable. When you practice and live by this you will find that no matter how much you feel overwhelmed, over time you will be able to overcome any hurdle no matter how high it seems. This is why I encourage you to meditate every morning, every night; so that when life does challenge you and it will you will be able to handle these challenges one step at a time. You will be able to replenish yourself, fill yourself back up so that you can wake and approach each new day and the challenges that come with it.

A Mosque at ground zero? : grounding meditation

President Obama’s recent approval for the construction of the Cordoba Centre, an Islamic centre and Mosque near the site of the September 11 attack on the twin tower attack has quite understandably raked up a huge controversy. The President claims to have based his approval on the basic principle of religious freedom, as according to him there is no reason why Muslims should be denied the right to build a place of worship at the given location. The move is being strongly opposed by many including retired FDNY Deputy Chief Al Santora father of Christopher the youngest victim of 9/11 who see this as an insult to all those who lost their lives in the ghastly terrorist attack. Supporters of the Cordoba centre however feel that a Mosque near the site of attack would be a testimony to America’s liberal credentials and the free spirit of New Yorkers in particular. They argue that any steps by the government to stop the construction of the mosque could give it an image of being bigoted and intolerant to Islam and push moderate Muslims into the fold of religious fanatics and extremists. Detractors of the Mosque however feel that establishing an Islamic centre including a Mosque would be seen as a victory by the same groups that planned and carried out the attack on the twin towers and give them a sense of jubilation, they also feel that Imam Feisal Al Rauf who is heading the initiative is not above board. Supporters of the Mosque however hold the view that the entire Muslim community cannot be blamed or held responsible for what a handful of terrorists did and the American public should not let itself be swayed by politicians who are trying to make an issue of the proposed Mosque and divide the people on religious lines. The controversy rages on…

While much can be argued in favour of and against both sides, we feel that the right thing that a government which wants to project itself as being neutral and non-religious would be to encourage the construction of a ‘Peace memorial’ near the site of the 9/11 attack where visitors could spend a minute in silent homage to the victims, meditate or just go around the place. This would be better than building a Church, Mosque or any other place of worship and would also help the government steer clear of any controversy.

Fighters at the top 10 level are the ones who you should be emulating in everyway when it comes to training. Visualization.

If you can sit down and take 10-15 minutes to picture how your fight is going to pan out twice a day during an 8-12 week training camp, you will be amazed by the results. You will have more faith and confidence in your abilities and be training on the road that leads to the picture that you’ve created in your mind.

Visualizing is proven for Olympic athletes to achieve the outcome they’ve set out for. It works for MMA fighters too. Many actually do it unconsciously.

Decrease Your Heart Rate.

Deep meditation can lower your heart rate, putting you in a state of pure calmness that can carry on throughout your day.

Decreasing your heart rate means that you’re decreasing the need for high amounts of oxygen. The less O2 consumption during a fight can prevent the onset of fatigue.

Calm, Cool and Intimidating.

Stepping into the cage requires you to realize that there is another person in there that is going to attack you and try to knock you unconscious. People do get used to this feeling. Meditation can prepare you for it before you step in there, preventing the adrenalin rush that causes you to use up your energy stores in the first round of the fight.

The more calm you are, the more you look like a destroyer.

Fighters like Fedor show a calmness that is almost disturbing to some of his opponents. His expressionless face makes him look like a robot built to beat opponents to the ground. This is what you want to work to.
